Inauguration of the Silver Jubilee Year at St. Mary’s School, Laila

The 19th of July, 2025 marked the inauguration of the Silver Jubilee Year (2025–26) of St. Mary’s School, Laila, with the blessings of Almighty God.
The commencement of the Silver Jubilee celebrations marks a significant milestone in the history of St. Mary’s School. The solemn Holy Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop of the Diocese of Belthangady, at 6:30 A.M., with several concelebrants joining him.
The formal programme was held in the school auditorium under the presidentship of Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop of Belthangady Diocese. Rev. Sr. Jincy Bastian MSMI, former Headmistress, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The programme began with a prayer dance performed by the students of the school, invoking the blessings of the Almighty. Rev. Sr. Preethi George MSMI, Headmistress, welcomed the guests and the gathering.
His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Mukkuzhy lit the ceremonial lamp, officially inaugurating the Silver Jubilee celebrations and launching the Silver Jubilee Logo. In his presidential address, he emphasized that “human resources are the nation’s wealth”, and expressed his confidence that St. Mary’s School, Laila, would remain the first choice for parents in the taluk. He also reflected on the school’s journey since its humble beginnings.
Sri Pratap Simha Nayak K., MLC, recalled that the school began in 2001 with just 18 students and now educates over 1,000 students. He praised the 25-year journey as one of dedication, contemplation, and achievement. He urged the school community to plan with a vision for the next 25 years and highlighted students’ accomplishments at the national level.
Sri Rakshith Shivaram, KPCC General Secretary, acknowledged the school’s efforts in providing quality education in a rural setting. He encouraged students to dream big, maintain self-discipline, and always remember the school and teachers who laid their foundation.
Rev. Sr. Jincy Bastian MSMI, former Headmistress, inaugurated the school’s official website and spoke about the school’s recent developments and progress.

The programme was smoothly compered by Assistant Teachers Ashwini and Vernon Mendonca. The event also witnessed the presence of former and current PTA executive members, priests and sisters engaged in missionary work, special invitees, media personnel, as well as the teaching and non-teaching staff. Class 10 students of the current academic year also attended. The school’s scout wing volunteered efficiently to ensure the success of the inauguration.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. Veena, Staff Secretary.
